ILTS is delighted to welcome Dr. Dean Ho as our Special Distinguished Speaker for the State-of-the-Art Lecture 1, taking place on Thursday, May 29, at 9:45 AM in Hall 406 CX – Engage Theatre 1, Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Dr. Ho is the Provost’s Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Design and Engineering, Director of The Institute for Digital Medicine (WisDM) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and Director of The N.1 Institute for Health (N.1) at the National University of Singapore.

He and his collaborators have developed groundbreaking technologies, including CURATE.AI, an AI platform personalizing treatments across oncology, digital therapeutics, and infectious diseases, and IDentif.AI, which optimizes combination therapy design for addressing SARS-CoV-2 and antimicrobial resistance. Recently, his team introduced WisDM Green, a platform addressing food security by optimizing yield while preserving nutritional content sustainably.

Dr. Ho is a Fellow of the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and the Royal Society of Chemistry. His internationally recognized leadership in digital health earned him a place in the HIMSS Future50 Class of 2021, and his groundbreaking work has been featured by CNN, The Economist, National Geographic, Forbes, Washington Post, NPR, and more. He is also a Subgroup Lead in the World Health Organization (WHO) Working Group for regulating AI in health.

Dr. Ho has received numerous accolades, including the Tech Heroes from Crisis Pathfinder Award from the Singapore Computer Society, the NSF CAREER Award, the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation Translational Research Award, and the V Foundation for Cancer Research Scholar Award. Additionally, he served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS).

Dr. Azzi is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. A distinguished immunologist and NIH-funded principal investigator, he leads a pioneering research program focused on understanding the immune-regulatory mechanisms in transplantation and autoimmunity. His work is dedicated to developing more targeted and safer therapeutic strategies, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as nanotechnology, cell therapy, and immunoengineering to transform the field of transplantation.

Dr. Azzi’s laboratory has also spearheaded genomic and proteomic innovations, leading to the development of diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers for transplant recipients and inflammatory diseases. His research has resulted in the ExoTRU test, a first-in-class non-invasive biomarker for kidney transplant rejection, now licensed to ThermoFisher, marking a significant advancement in post-transplant monitoring.

Dr. Mohamed Rela presents:

Pushing the Boundaries with Innovative Robotic Technologies in Liver Transplantation: A Focus on Pediatric Applications

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Mohamed Rela will be delivering the prestigious State-of-the-Art Lecture III on Saturday, May 31, at 9:30 AM in Hall 406 CX – Engage Theatre 1 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Dr. Mohamed Rela is a pioneering figure in liver transplantation with over three decades of experience. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre and one of the world’s foremost liver transplant surgeons.

His career highlights include performing over 6,000 liver transplants, including a Guinness World Record for a successful transplant on a five-day-old infant. He is a leader in robotic liver surgery and complex hepatobiliary procedures, conducting over 200 robotic liver surgeries and 450 complex hepatobiliary surgeries annually. Additionally, he has made significant contributions to surgical innovations, particularly in pediatric liver transplantation, pioneering split liver transplantation and other advanced techniques to optimize donor organ usage.

Dr. Mohamed Rela is a renowned Indian surgeon specializing in liver transplantation and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. Born in Kiliyanur, Tamil Nadu, he completed his MBBS and MS degrees at Stanley Medical College in Chennai. He furthered his training in the United Kingdom, obtaining an additional MS from Edinburgh and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1988.
 
In 1991, Dr. Rela joined King’s College Hospital in London, where he pioneered advanced liver transplant techniques, including auxiliary and split liver transplantation. Notably, in 1997, he performed a successful liver transplant on a five-day-old infant, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
 
Returning to India, Dr. Rela established the Institute of Liver Disease and Transplantation in 2009, which became the nation’s largest liver transplant program. In 2018, he founded the Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre in Chennai, aiming to provide high-quality, affordable healthcare. Throughout his career, he has performed over 6,000 liver transplants and published more than 900 scientific articles.
 
Dr. Rela has also made significant contributions to the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), serving in multiple leadership roles, including Chair of Committees, Council Member, and President. His work has played a crucial role in shaping global liver transplantation practices and advancing research and education in the field.
 
Currently, he serves as Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre and as Professor of Liver Surgery and Transplantation at King’s College Hospital in London. His contributions have significantly advanced liver transplantation worldwide.
